Hi Oklahoma Climbers,

I am visiting my friend stationed at Vance AFB, 1 hr north of Oklahoma City, in December and probably a few times over the next few months.

what’s the go to climbing spot nearby? I love all kinds, sport, trad, mountains, multipitch, whats the can’t miss?

thanks!

The Witchita Mountains are probably a couple hours from where you will be and offers some pretty great trad climbing. There is a Oklahoma Climbers Facebook page that makes it easy to meet people to climb with. You can climb there in the winter if you are fortunate with the weather. Not much for sport unless you make the 5 hour drive to Arkansas, which is worth a trip in my opinion.

Good luck

Second Wichita Mountains. Pretty solid climbing. Also second heading to HCR in Arkansas if you like sport.

Quartz Mountain in OK is cool if you like R/X climbing.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
