Colorado Climber Missing on Mt. Elbrus
|
A Colorado officer and National Guardsman is missing in Russia and his family, friends and coworkers are working feverishly to locate him. Olivia Beare, wife of Steven Beare, said her husband, a Littleton Police Department officer, went missing while climbing Mount Elbrus in Russia between the 18th and the 19th of June. She said she spoke with her husband Monday night as he continued on his hike up to a camp where small houses are located part of the way up the mountain. As he continued on his journey, he was out of contact with his wife for several days. "We know that there was a really bad storm that came in really quick out of nowhere," Beare said. "We're thinking that's when he got lost." A Russian search party began to search on Sunday during the day, but stopped, according to Beare, who said the climb was her husband's first attempt at a solo assent You can donate to support search efforts at the link below - even a few dollars will help the family cover costs to try to find him. Please fellow climbers, if you can, donate to help pay for the search effort. We really need to see our friend come home. |

Thank you Eben. Even a small donation goes a long way towards the cost of rescue efforts. |

Steven's wife, Olivia, is asking if there are any climbers with rescue experience who would be able/willing to go to Russia to support the search efforts on Mt. Elbrus. US military can't get clearance to support the rescue. If you know anyone and for more information about logistics please contact Olivia Beare through the Facebook group Search for Steven at https://www.facebook.com/groups/245085129311718/?pnref=story |

I have offered my services to Olivia via Congressman Mike Coffman. I have money ready and gear packed, I just need a visa (which the congressman is attempting to procure with the Russian ambassador this afternoon). I would be able to assist the SAR in any way they need as well as primarily providing on-ground support and a point of contact with Steve's family. I hope that we can stretch the SAR dollars as far as possible and free up the professional team to only deal with maximizing their search time. I want Steve to have a familiar face there when they find him, whether that be myself or another friend, so cross your fingers for visas to come through. |

Praying they come through quickly, Eben, Thank you! |

Steven's wife Olivia posted an update yesterday. The Russian SAR will call of the search tomorrow. Don Bowie is continuing search efforts day by day. Steven has been missing for two weeks. They have had two helicopters searching when weather has allowed. Here's a video of the heli rescue efforts: https://www.instagram.com/p/BV0FvUnhQ5R/ If you can, please consider donating to help Olivia and the family cover the costs of the search. http://www.coloradopolicefoundation.org/search-for-steven |
