I see some posts on instagram of people climbing routes that are closed due to raptors(South Platte), NFS (Williamson rock), cultural(Devils Tower). if I was at a crag and someone was climbing a closed route, or doing anything wrong, I would say something. I think climbing a closed route is wrong but you can't personally disagree with a policy and still climb but spraying about it is an even worse act in my opinion. Am I wrong? Anyone have experience confronting digital offenders? Thoughts?

Also bear in mind that just because it is on social media doesn't mean that it just happened (unless they specifically date it eg "yesterday" etc)

Some of the MP raptor closure stuff is confusing. You may think something is closed that is really open. For example, last I looked on the Boulder Canyon page there's a closure for Blob Rock, but on the actual Blob Rock page it says that it is open (which is it is). That being said, climbing a legit closed route is totally irresponsible and endangers access issues for climbers. People should absolutely be called out and face whatever penalty is in place.

CO state park websites and staff are not always clear on closures, and they certainly aren't physically posted at gates or trailheads where they would be unmissable. Don't assume people are acting in bad faith.

So, yeah, what he said. Not everything on social media is happening in real time, consider that. I saw a Devils Tower pic today from a very well known climber and another even more well known climber commented about the Tower closure. OP commented back that it the photo was from last month. #hashtagyourlatergrams

Don't assume people are acting in bad faith. Why aren't the closures posted at the trailheads, near the routes, etc.? They do that here, and, as far as I know, it works well and is respected. Which is good for all concerned, as some of these momma's are mighty big birds, and known to defend their turf rather vigorously! Best, OLH

Best, OLH The closures at less remote areas sometimes do have postings on site. I guess it's a matter of resources.

I know personally with dealing with closures at linville gorge in north carolina that closures can be extremely confusing. Especially when they list closed from route A to B and route A is a climb that isn't commonly known or I can't find it in the guide book. I mean they should know the most common way people hike into climbs and should post a sign right at the spot where it is closed and say closed until you follow the wall and get to the next sign or something. Example Closure Message: Shortoff - All routes between and including C.O. and Paradigm Shift... Paradigm shift isn't in the guide book I have but is on mountain project but C.O. isn't listed anywhere I can find... assuming this is all in the section of shortoff that is away from the main area people climb but still =/ I mean if you are going to list closures and you really should use routes that are listed in the common guide books or at least post the routes on mountain project with some details on location.
