Squamish...so say a guy needs a parking spot....
|
So typically I stay at Paradise Valley Campground. I don't mind paying, the people are nice, and I like the paradise boulders right there, and access to Chek. however all campgrounds including Paradise are soldout this weekend. If A guy did want to park his Van in Squamish or the vacinity for 1 night, where would he do it? I understand this has been an issue recently, but this will be my 1st time back in 2 years and It seems things have changed. |

dont know if walmart has cracked down yet, but once some dirtbags cousins sister-in-law told me that was ok. |

Dan...turn left on Clevland Avenue from the Sea to Ski Hwy (the corner with the McDonald's) and go across the railroad trails. On the left you'll see a large gravel area parallel to the railroad tracks. This is before you enter downtown Squamish. We have used this several years to park in our RV while visiting Squamish. No water or services, just a flat no hassle place to park for a night or two. There is a climbing store, bank, and grocery store 50 yds from the parking area. |

Sorry to ask a question on your thread, but I'm visiting Squamish for 2 weeks in July. Should I reserve camping? I was planning on just showing up. |
|
I've been living in a van in Squamish for the past 2 months. Things are super chill right now. People are even camping in vans in the Chief parking lot. Doesn't sound like they're going to enforce anything until July, and even then just around the chief. |

So sounds like if we have a truck to sleep in, we don't need camping reservations? |

Creed A wrote: Maybe. In previous years that would be true. This summer, we'll see. There is lots of talk of a camping crackdown this summer. They generally are pretty lax with camping, except during peak season (July-August). |

As a board member of the Squamish Access Society, I can tell you that authorities this year will likely be acting much differently this year than years past both in terms of the Chief/Apron lot, Shannon falls, and Murrin lots as well as unofficial camping up the Mamquam FSR (particularly places that are close to the Slhanay, angels crest, etc. trailhead). We will be posting updates on website (sqaumishaccess.ca and our facebook page) as soon as we can. Current info can be found in our annual report: http://squamishclimbingmagazine.ca/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/2016-SAS-AGM-Report.pdf scroll to page 7 for parking issues. On a related note, please do your part in maintaining good climber/community relations in Squamish by camping and parking with respect. It is very possible in the coming years we will facing a Yosemite/Camp 4 type of situation if the current trajectory continues. And on an somewhat related note, there is logging going on near Chek this spring. We have fought to maintain access, but please plan accordingly (see page 6 of report). We will, again, updated our website and facebook as more info becomes available. David Jones Director at large Squamish Access Society |
