I am new to California and do not have much Yosemite knowledge. My partner has been on Snake Dike and bailed due to weather last year, we are trying to get on it soon.
Heard 2 weekends ago that Snake Dike might be climbable but the descent would be super sketchy/wet/icy. Any idea how the descent might be this Sunday, May 14?
I've been checking the timelapse, it looks pretty cool today btw - http://www.halfdome.net/movies/sentineldome/ Looks like there is still a decent amount of snow on top though.
Any other suggestions for dry modereate multipitch? Nutcracker should be dry? What about Grack or Royal Arches?
I know there is still snow at higher elevations in the park, snake dike might not be ideal for a few more weeks. I recommend checking out manure pile butress or reeds pinnacle area. Also great time for bouldering.
I was just on Royal Arches and Manure Pile Buttress last week. Royal Arches was completely dry both on the way up and all the way down except for the pendulum/traverse pitch where it was required to take off our shoes and climb barefoot through a minor waterfall just after the pendulum. It wasn't too sketchy and the feet felt solid even while wet. Manure PIle Buttress was completely dry. I also heard Grack was completely dry FWIW.
