Wondering where a climber might find info on the chute like Dean Potter used for freebasing. Are they sold or specially made by some specific company? Just looking for any info available.

Apologies if this has been asked; using my mobile and can't find a search option.

Thanks.

Freebasing involves purifying cocaine. It's illegal.

Not sure if you're referring to a specific jump or climb he did, but he was using parachutes made for base jumping. There are numerous compaines out there making them. If you have to ask the question in your post they likely won't sell to you. The traditional path to BASE jumping is to build a solid foundation skydiving (likely a few hundred jumps) then start doing your homework learning about the base specific gear, techniques, etc. Most experienced skydivers find a mentor or take a course when transitioning to base.

They were made specifically, so you'd have to know the right people

Everything above.

it's not as simple as you my think. a BASE rig is a harness and container system, with a specific type of canopy, sized for a specific weight of person. Low(ish) openings require specific skills as well, and Landing and steering a canopy takes time to master. Not to mention dealing with off heading openings, poor body position on deployment, dealing with malfunctions etc..

There is a LOT MORE to it than the YouTube videos will lead you to believe.

Seek professional advice.

This is one of those "if you have to ask you have absolutely no business even thinking about it" moments.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
