FYI, from Tough Shift to Immaculate Virgin

A lot of prime real estate in this closure unfortunately!

It's likely once the babies hatch the restriction will be narrowed. But that might not be for a month or more. My GF climbed Minty recently and said the Peregrines appeared to have claimed the nearby Madame G's buttress.

The Sunbowl is also part of this closure.

The above photo accompanies the Preserve's notice. It is credited to Anne Coleman Johnson. It raises so many questions, I don't know where to begin. The climber is carrying a rack but appears to be following. She is also crossing the rope of another party. And the rope she is crossing is through a single piece of gear which causes the rope to be bent at a crazy angle.

Really my main question is: what route or routes is this?

Climbed madame a week ago and the falcons were present. They are amazing aerialists and looked like they were having a nice day flying way up and diving down. Probably what I would do if I were a bird. Seems like mohonk could start the closure earlier.

Seth,

It looks like all the same rope. To me it seems the rope looks like it's tied to her, goes outta the picture to maybe a piece? and then comes back in to the piece above her and down to the ground. I agree though, it seems odd. Maybe the photographer will chime in?

I'm quite certain it is Lost & Found. The climb goes hard left above the lip of the 'hang, then it angles back right to - in this case - the LWBF rap bolts.

The same photo was posted once on the Gunks.com "Guess the Route" thread, but I don't think anyone ever answered.

It does look like Lost & Found. The strange top rope set up is still hard to understand.

Trapps Bridge Replacement Project

Site preparation and construction staging for

The Trapps Bridge Replacement Project
will begin March 13

and
removal of the existing bridge is tentatively scheduled for March 20 and 21.
During portions of the bridge removal, traffic on Route 44/55 may be delayed.

Beginning the week of April 10,
traffic on Route 44/55 will be reduced to one lane,
via an automated signal while abutments are set back
and rebuilt in preparation for the new bridge.
The project is slated for completion by August.

2017 PEREGRINE FALCON CLIMBING CLOSURE
Due to nesting peregrine falcons, the section of the Trapps cliff
between and including the routes
TOUGH SHIFT (5.10b) and IMMACULATE VIRGIN (5.6)
is temporarily closed to rock climbing.
. . . . . . . .
This closure is in effect as of March 1, 2017.

Help us to protect the fledging Peregrine Falcons. We ask that you:
• DO NOT use ascent trails or rappel routes that access this area.
• DO NOT use the trails at the top of the cliff in the closure area.
• DO NOT use the section of the cliff base climbers trail between these routes.
• PLEASE refrain from excessive noise making while in the vicinity of this closure.

A few of us used to climb all over that old green bridge. Way back when that end of Main Street was

I wanted to visualize where the closure is ahead of going there. Maybe useful to somebody.  Cliff features are kind of hard to pick out from google earth but I think this is pretty accurate.  (The google earth shadows are opposite to the gunks app topos which makes it fun).   The closure is the orange area and I'm pretty sure I got all of the yellow blazes if you wanted to count as you hiked.  Caveat emptor and all that.

On a related note, The gunks app is great if you haven't checked it out. I just wish it had an overview map that displayed where climbs are once selected or filtered instead of the (you are 300 yards WSW from "Arrow") dialog.  It would be good for planning a day out to figure out where some climbs in a particular grade range are clustered if you hadn't been there before.

(Edited because my original explanation made no sense).

That's a really fun little nerdy exercise there, Rob. As a visualization I'm not sure it's very helpful, since the angle of the photo compresses so much of the cliff. Three Pines is not even close to halfway down the Trapps, but in the photo it appears to be at the geographic center of the cliff.

Seth you're totally right. The perspective throws it off. Thanks for the suggestion.
