Seeking a partner for climbing around south lake powell or the grand canyon. I posted up in the southern utah deserts forum as well. I basically want to climb some features on the lake powell skyline, which would be kayak access and low quality rock.

It's not always about the summit, but sometimes it is.

Check access first. If those are rez lands, you may have some issues.

Most of it is in the Glen canyon national recreation area or the grand staircase.

Hey Eli,

I've always thought of climbing around Powell, but never had the chance. I've camped at Gunsight so many times but always over summer and climbing then would be brutally hot. Anyways, you should post some pics if you can after your adventure!

Rez issues are nothing compared to the L.E. issues in the GCNRA!

L.E. Issues ?? Law Enforcement??

G.C.N.R.A.?? Grand Canyon National Rec Area??

Please explain if you have further explanation of this vague reference?

Sorry, LEs are Law Enforcement Officers in the GLEN Canyon National Recreation Area. The climbing and anchor policies there are stringent. See comments at bottom of this cover page link: mountainproject.com/v/lake-…

Thanks Roy
I thought that was the policies you were referring to and wanted to reference as well.

Best to go back to wood pitons 'round these parts.

A.Newman (if you can find him) is a great contact and resource for stuff of the soft nature in these areas.

I'm game, but FYI there is better quality stuff out there.

Hey PCBall, check out this place, as a nod to, I agree with you: mountainproject.com/v/grand…

I'm game, although spring weather could easily make that unclimbable (drive-able?)

There's some even better (taller) stuff that's lower hanging, so to speak.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
