Left gear enchanted rock fear of flying

Howdy,

My friend and I left a #3 and #4 c4 at fear of flying yesterday after he decked two moves from the top of fear of flying at enchanted rock (his condition is stable and his helmet saved his life). If anyone happens to climb the route and would like to return the gear that would be great. We are in the Austin area.

Thanks,

Ryan

I'm curious as to the circumstances under which he hit the deck. I don't know the route or the area, but it looks really well protected. What caused your buddy to hit the deck from so high up a route?

I wish him a speedy recovery, hope all is well.

Pure speculation, but my guess is the climber didn't have the gear for the route.

#4's get tipped out about half way up. If he didn't have a #5 and/or #6 but chose to lead it anyway, I could see a deck situation. Especially if he, like most other climbers I see on this route, was trying to lieback the whole route and got gassed.

I wish the guy a complete and speedy recovery.

He made the mistake of walking a #6 up with him and when it jammed on trying to put it back in and he was out of energy he fell with the last piece being a #4 near the beginning of the climb.

Retrospectively we know that he should have left his #5 in as he had taken that out when it got tipped from walking it and also that he should have just left the #6 placed and climbed above it with the potential of a small lead fall.

Thank you for the best wishes
