I am spending the weekend in Flagstaff and was to get some good suggestions for free secluded camping. Also, where would you recommend taking a beginner climber? The pit wouldn't be terrible, but I was hoping for something more mellow. I am not sure if a lower angle slab exists in Flag but let me know. Thanks guys!

Flagstaff has an abundance of free National Forest camping. Pretty much any part of the forest that isn't private or within city limits is open to free camping. You just have to follow the 14 day limit and beware of areas that have fire closures. Camping on the Peaks is nice, out Lake Mary Road off Crimson Rd (Priest Draw) has plenty of options, or you could head west on the I40 and find places near A1 Mountain. All free and very accessible.

The Pit sounds like it would be the very best option but if you wanted a scene change you could check out the Hobo Jungle. Moderate enough climbing there but will still be quite challenging for a newb.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
