Hi folks,

Anyone been up around the base of keeler or ivo iceberg lake yet this season? Hoping to climb on keeler needle in about a week and was wondering how the snow conditions are on whitneys mountaineers route (axe/crampons needed for descent?)/whether or not iceberg lake has melted. Thanks for any up to date conditions!

Cheers,
Mike

Just up in that area yesterday. Iceberg Lake has at least partially melted and it's definitely possible to get water. Still some snow/ice hanging out in the last 400' of the Mountaineer's Route, but this can be avoided by sticking to scrambling down the rock on the sides of the gully. The main portion of the Mountaineer's Route is mostly clear with just some brief sections soft snow left. We were able to descend with just our approach shoes and a trekking pole each. Enjoy!
