Sitting with some vets today (spraying) a guy known as "Hippy Jim" says "oh you're a rock climber now?" Then goes to his shed, retrieves the attached and mentions he grabbed it off a prominent westward wall (not a climbing spot) while hunting decades ago and gave it to use or for decoration. So is this heavy piton/rap ring something that should be used or decoration (Missouri limestone)?..just remembered "if you have to ask".

Usable? Just as usable as commuting in an antique car. The question isnt can yoi, but why would you?

Are you asking if that rusty old piton should still be used? It is definitely more fit for decoration if you value your life.

Looks to be in great shape! A little elbow grease and it is time to test it out! Hemp rope only...

That's barely worthy of the word rust, scotch brite and elbow grease would polish that right up

It isn't old school--it's preschool.

The teething ring on the end makes it easier to place your crag baby safely out of the way of any crag dogs roaming around the base area.
Hanging from this beauty will develop a crag baby's neck muscles and bone structure so that both are optimized for lead belaying. With a good anchor they should be able to give a solid belay by the age of 3 or 4.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
