static rope anchor

What do you think about this static rope for anchor building? |
there is nothing wrong with this stuff. i would get the 8.3, its my fixing and jugging rope for walls |
9.2 is a good size I wouldn't go smaller. |
its really burly rope... ether size you could use the 8.3. chances are you are not carrying this far for top rope anchors, or all that much of it. so 9.3 will last longer, but the difference is negligible in terms of durability. I know Tom and you could ask him if he has any small chunks that he would part out. I also cannot over emphases how stiff this rope is when you first receive it. |
What length you all recommend? |
Any particular reason you want to buy a rope for anchor material? Why don't you just get some 7mm accessory cord (for making a cordelette) or buy some webbing? |

FrankPS --- While I am a Newb... I have read what seems like 100's of threads about the Static Rope/ Webbing/ Cordlette Top rope Anchor Debate. |

The conclusion I get from those threads is that it is somewhat personal preference. I knkow that webbing is lighter etc. I don't plan on limiting myself to static rope only. Webbing will also be part of my kit. For starters I figured I would start with Static for durability and ease of checking my Knot work at a glance. Just my thoughts....The issue, as always, becomes hauling. There are certain situations where it is ideal to have some length of static rope for extending an anchor (e.g. trees that are set way back, or a crack system thats 20ft from the edge. Joshua Tree is notorious for the latter scenario) The best thing you can do now is learn what conditions you'll be climbing in regularly and develop your knowledge of anchors to avoid buying something you don't need... yet. |

A big issue for you is where the anchor points are. If you are bringing trees and boulders far back from the edge into you ssystem, then static is great. Two bolts not so much. You are correct that this will be the most durable. |
Nothing wrong with having a nice thick static rope for anchors, just remember that you will need a bit more than thinner cord due to the length used up in the knots. |
Thanks for the feedback guys. The anchors for the top ropes i will be doing are a bit back from the edge including boulders and trees. I will grab some rope for now and see how it goes. |
7mm Cord, 1-inch Tubular Webbing, and Static Rope are all good options for building anchors. |
I would want bigger than 7mm for a TR anchor rope. I like a 9mm myself |
^^^^^ agreed |

That canyon fire 8.3 is bomber. Couldn't begin to count how many times I've jugged it with no visible wear. I'd go poly over nylon for sure with a static. |
Reviving this thread because I was interested in finding rope for this purpose. |
Bluewater does sometimes sell shorts on Ebay as well..static & dynamic |
Good luck with sterling shorts, I recently tried to order one and they were out of stock. |
FYI - my Sterling shorts shipped, whew. |
Nice, I think I was trying to get a 30-35m. I'll probably try again some other time, it's a great deal when they have them in stock. |
