yup, it works. Mammut 10.2 rope, used it to top rope a route and ended up hang dogging. This thing is perfect.

Weird, where do you get one? The insides look just like an USHBA basic ascender but with some sort of release button.

omniprogear has them, the button changes it from catching just falls to "ascender mode". the eyelet is offset from the center so when it receives downward force it rotates the whole device creating angular forces.

O wow, that USHBA basic ascender is awesome, wish I had found that instead

Are you using this thing for a TR solo setup or are we just talking about being belayed by somebody using one?

top rope solo

did it feed smoothly? Were you backing it up with another device or knots?

The ushba ascender cuts the rope at ~6 KN

The grand wall copy of it (the only version you can now buy) has had failures to catch ... Leading to at least one injury on TR solo

Its a flawed design

for folks who want to read about an USHBA failure ... the person is a very experienced climber with many first ascents to his name ...

squamishclimbing.com/squami…

and theres this fun little tidbit of course ...

Bearbreeder - any idea of what production model this is? I've had it for about 9 years.

ushba basic titanium ... basically the same as the one that cuts the rope at 6 KN

storrick.cnc.net/VerticalDe…

which is basically the same as the grand wall uAscent which is sold now, except this is steel

it looks like the Goblin has an extra corner compared to that ascender. I know this thing is rated to slip to keep the tension under 2kn
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
