CAD model of a BD camalot number 1
did a CAD model of the BD number one cam if anyone has use for it you can find it here: |
Twist the stem and trigger 90 degrees. Once you twist the trigger, switch which wire goes to which lobe. |
And i've got access to CNC.... profit??? |
yea, the trigger is twisted, my bad I will try and change that when I get a chance, it actually will rotate in the model but then the wires will go haywire. |
also yes lets make some cams, I have an idea or two about improvements too... this was a start in that direction |

Locker wrote:Just wondering. Is this useful information and if so, to whom? I have to be missing something...One obvious use would be in rendering animated films (CG) with a rock climbing theme. You can get models of common objects - chairs, cars, people - at places like turbosquid, but cams are super specialized and without someone sharing an asset like this you'd likely be stuck modeling it yourself. Edit: wow, there actually is a cam on turbosquid but it's that other brand... |

Locker wrote:Just wondering. Is this useful information and if so, to whom? I have to be missing something...Its fun. The info is not necessarily useful except as a reverse engineering exercise or someone that wants to make their own cams, which while not an inherently bad idea, just doesn't make sense time/money wise. They are cool little gizmos to learn about though. |

Software it was modeled in is solidworks, but you can open it in pretty much any CAD program because I posted the .step and .iges files also the .stl but idk why you would need those. Will try and fix the model this afternoon or next week, and will post an update here when I do so. |

Tom Sherman wrote:And i've got access to CNC.... profit??? Why is the stem trigger twisted off axis?Just how quickly can you knock out a complete cam? Hint: It'll be faster to get a minimum wage job and earn enough to buy one from BD. In fact you can earn enough to buy an entire rack before you'll finish the first cam. |

Has nobody on MP heard the "1.____, 2.____, 3. Profit!" jokes? |
step one, obtain underpants step two,_____ step three, Profit! |
So was just playing around with this in CAD, I didn't download yours, but drew a logarythmic spiral and was screwing around. |
No love for cam talk here? I only drew one logarithmic spiral and then took the original one and shrunk it by a scale factor relative to Δ distance between two arrangements (axle centerline in single vs. double axle). AKA uniform scale of spiral should be maintaining standards? Correct? |

It looks very nice. Thanks for sharing! |
Apparently MP folks don't know about the Underpants Gnomes and their 1. Collect underpants. 2. ? ... 3. Profit! meme. A shocking lack of cultural literacy for a 'net forum... ;-) |
Nice job dude. That is some solid work! |
I think I learned something. |
It's way better than anything I could do! But... Gotta work on the thumbloop/stem. Something's off there. |
