Planet Granite To Match Up To $20,000 For Donations To ASCA PG Celebrates 20 Years Supporting Safe Climbing October 15, 2014 San Francisco, California: Planet Granite, the West Coasts leading climbing gym, today announced plans to match up to $20,000 in donations made to the American Safe Climbing Association (ASCA) during the months of October and November. Since its founding in 1994, Planet Granite has supported this non-profit, dedicated to replacing unsafe anchors and reducing the environmental impacts of climbing, through its community donation program PG Gives Back. In the last five years Planet Granite has helped raise more than $140,000 for the ASCA through direct donations and matching fundraisers. Planet Granite has been instrumental in supporting the ASCA donating over half of our entire income in the last few years. This benefits climbers nationwide by helping maintain safe climbing anchors, says Greg Barnes, Director of the ASCA. Bolts definitely break and this helps save lives. Since 1998 the ASCA has replaced more than 12,000 bolts nationwide. In 2013, an army of volunteer rebolters worked in 19 states and two countries, including Thailand and Mexico. This year, the ASCA has supplied almost 1600 bolts to crags in California and Oregon, the two states where Planet Granite members reside. While Planet Granite plans on matching donations that come in from across the nation, it is also hosting two local events to benefit the ASCA. Planet Granite San Francisco will program something for late November. Meantime, Planet Granite Portland will be selling raffle tickets at its Grand Opening wherein all proceeds from the weekend benefit the ASCA. More information on donating, including the quick link to donating via Paypal (the "Make a Donation" button in the upper right corner), is at safeclimbing.org planetgranite.com/pg_givesb…

Donation made, hopefully made the cutoff for the match. Sorry, couldn't be as generous as last year; external circumstances prevent it, but hopefully other people will also take advantage of the match offer.

No worries Christian, Planet Granite is matching donations for all of October and November! For those in Portland, the grand opening of the new Planet Granite gym - this weekend! - includes FREE entry, and they are asking for donations for the ASCA instead! For those in the Bay Area, Alex Honnold will be presenting at a big fundraiser at Planet Granite in San Francisco on Wednesday, November 19th (starting at 7pm). Huge thanks to Alex for helping out for a second time (he presented in 2012 too)! We are collecting prizes from all over, a big thanks to Kevin Daniels of Fixe USA for donating a 9.4 x 80m rope (yes
70m is so last decade), plus Aliens and quickdraws! Also to Jason Haas of Fixed Pin publishing for donating books, here's some for the SF event (he also donated more for the Portland event!):
Fixed Pin donation for Nov.19th ASCA fundraiser in San Francisco.
