Face Shield for Ice Climbing?

I've been thinking about getting a face shield to attach to my helmet while ice climbing and just want the community's opinion on this "accessory". Petzl makes the Vizion which can attach to Meteor III or Elios but it's $50 yikes!

Seems like it would be awesome for deflecting ice and spindrift, but I feel like I never see anyone climbing with one. Thoughts?

Ive always used sunglasses, safety glasses, or ski goggles. Theres nothing wrong with protecting your face, but there are cheaper ways to do it.

I've always used sunglasses - but if you want something more protective here is an idea....

...

Perhaps some extra duct tape to retrofit it on to your Petzl Helmet.

Guy Lacelle used to wear one, so that's bad ass enough for me. I also wear glasses but would really like to get the shield, but $50 is more than I spent on my Elios!

+1 Ski goggles or Sun glasses with the poly lenses. If you dont want the tint paintball goggles work, I have a friend who uses them.

I bought one for my wife. Surprisingly good.

Grivel used to sell a shield that was beefy enough to stop an adze coming at your forehead. I looked something like this:

OK, so you'd look like a dork at the ice crag, but it is still an option.

It is true I have made fun of you....and now I wear one. Something on your eyes at the very least makes sense to me. The visors are expensive but cheap by comparison to a few stiches or a serious eye injury.

Any clear work glasses will work just fine. Super cheap, more comfortable, plenty safe.

I wouldn't chance it to cheap garbage lenses. Oakleys have saved my eyes a few times... Just sayin.

Maybe you can DIY a shield for your Petzl helmet? Just find some flexible plastic and screws?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
