General analogy- the bigger the city the stronger the competition is. Folks who just can't cut it tend to rant on about how much better it is staying in their cheap little house in their tiny little town. Its OK, not everyone has an A game to bring. For there to be winners, the world needs a lot of losers too. Losers being a relative term, of course. My impression based on your OP is that you should not move to Denver until you grow the fuck up. And BTW, student loans are like financial herpes. You're not getting away from them. They and IRS charges are the only things a bankruptcy won't discharge. I too was a financial idiot and had student loan payments still at 35 when I got married and the wife took over the business side of my life and put the damn things to bed.

Wow! It looks like there are several camps on this one! Denver isnt the worst place to live,Denver is the shit and you better quit being a lil bitch if you want to be Rad-I, and cities suck make bishop work. Maybe I won't get offered the job and I won't be forced to make such a tough decision. Also M Lane, thanks for proving a point FOR me.

FWIW, Denver could be anything from terrific to urban sprawl depending on exactly where you call home and where you came from. There are certainly fairly non-urban spots from which folks commute to Denver from. Yet, you want a climbing gym nearby, place to eat at walking distance, and no urban feel. That may be tougher, but staying west along/near the foothills may sort of bridge this gap. Don't expect to avoid an urban feel while at work if you have to work in Denver.

Troll of the month. I just went to a strip mall (all I do, really) and barely avoided a rabid pack of chubby housewives.

You could do much worse than Denver, but you can't do much better than Bishop. Climbing wise, Denver is a step down from Bishop.

The whole -Rado thing is laughable as much as the CO is way better than Utah thing. The only major thing that we have over Utah is that we make and sell real beer... well besides the obvious religious reasons that surround those laws... Yay. The only people that make fun of CO are those that I think are jealous of the lifestyle or just need to look in the mirror about the whole 'Rado mentality. I moved from MD/DC to CO a few years ago, and would say that I highly prefer living here to over there. You'll find the true sprawl, shit traffic, and true assholes there. That being said, I am more of a Boulder person, and wouldn't live in Denver unless I truly had to. This might be a little generalized, but in my large company, most that live in Denver seem more prioritized on partying and drinking rather than being focused on an outdoor lifestyle than those living in and around Boulder. Comparing Bishop to Denver is like comparing apples and oranges. You can find all the things you listed in Denver. It's not sprawl in town, and it's a cool place overall. Good luck man.. either way you'll be golden.

Andrew Gram wrote: Really? Good job sounding like the Colorado douchebag cliche Utahrds tend to assume of Coloradoans. Relax cupcake, it was a joke. I know full well that California can refer to CO as wishing it were good enough to be CA Jr. I remember your posting elsewhere how much you loathed Denver and couldn't wait to get back to SLC, and I didn't take offence at all to that b/c you were not only here, but got deep into Denver; and then made an experienced choice. This guy on the other hand sprays all over how what a tragedy he faces without apparently ever stepping foot here. So yeah, it brings the DH out in me. I think what pissed me off the most is that I appreciate the benefits of a vibrant city like theater, high-end restaurants, art, a diverse population, etc. Denver has this to a decent degree (still pales in comparison to the real metropolises) but with the offset of all the recreation as well. That combination is very rare, and I don't think this kid is ready for it. Or deserves it.

Do not... and I repeat... DO NOT move to Denver, Boulder, or any other city on the front range of colorado. It is a horrible place to live. Absolute shit hole for real... weed is legal, all the girls are fat, food sucks (unless you like mexican), weather sucks, people are ass holes, all the good climbs have lines of noobs waiting. I would stay in california as long as you can... seems like a good fit for you! Oh yea and the skiing... well it sucks too! No idea why so many people vacation in CO... It really just plain sucks so stay far away and tell everyone you know thinking of coming here that it is one step above hell.

Not sure where you are getting that I loathe Denver Mike. I don't, and I think it is a great town. I prefer SLC for sure, but Denver would certainly be my second choice for a large city to live in. I also appreciate the benefits of a vibrant city like theater, high-end restaurants, art, a diverse population, etc - Salt Lake has all of those too. The main thing I miss about Denver are the Rockies, Broncos, and Avalanche games. No need to dump on SLC just because a douchebag in Bishop used to live here - holler if you are out this way and i'll give you the tour beyond green jello and scrapbooking stores.

Why is there so much hate between people who live in beautiful places? I grew up in Boulder and absolutely love Colorado, so why would that entail I hate Utah? Or Wyoming or California or wherever? I have been climbing in all these "rival states" and they are all amazing. Pick the job that gives you the most money, so you can travel on your time off and see places you don't live. Just don't move to Florida. Bishop or Denver, you can't go wrong.

Anyone want to Punish me this weekend by dragging my sorry ass and big mouth around the mountains? I'll be available to get my ass kicked by the climbs or by you all day Saturday and Sunday. I'll even get you a beer and maybe dinner, but nothing more; I'm a happily married man.
