Favorite Meals on a Wall

Hey -

I'm heading out to the Valley in a few weeks with the goal of climbing the Nose. I've done some of the beginner aid routes in Zion, but we fixed one day and finished the route the next, so this will be my first time living on a wall. I'm wondering if anyone has some good meal suggestions - what's your favorite thing to bring, what's practical, what isn't practical - love to hear it.

Thanks!

Most all wall routes in the valley get sent with a diet of Cigs and Old E.

Occasionally you might throw in some vino and vicodin.

A small onion goes a long way on a wall.

It works well to use "formerly lipton" rice sides with some bagged tuna for dinner. It cleans up well in a jetboil or reactor, especially if you make it soupy. For breakfast oatmeal from the bag works well and breakfast bars. Also some cheese and salami is nice and does not go bad very easily. some bugler and whiskey is a nice touch to take the edge off and helps with sleep. Tons of candy bars too, avoid chocolate.

I only did one big wall, 11 days on the Magic Mushroom. All we had to eat was canned food. A packet of hot sauce made a huge difference. We had one lemon at about half way it was like heaven. The worst meal of the whole climb was the morning we had black beans (all of the labels were gone).

ever think to write what the food is in perm marker on the lid? We do that camping just for that reason.

Definitely bring Mentos, Jolly Ranchers, or anything to suck on in case you run out of water.

Moist foods - the Nose will likely be hot in June.

Pudding.
Fruit cocktail.
Applesauce.
Shot blocks.
Raisons.
Babybel cheese.
Gatorade.

High caloric foods. Canned chili fits the bill for dinner.
Pringles.
Soft batch chocolate chip cookies.

A total of 4 quarts of fluids per climber per day.

The Nose is an awesome route. Good luck. Post up a trip report.

no way this is enough, you should drink at least 128 ounces of water a day.

4 quarts?
128 oz? That's not nearly enough:
You'll need at least 3,637 milliliters

When somebody else has already bought the food and the labels are already washed off there's not much you can do.

We had a couple of cans of chili as well and with a packet of hot sauce they were the bomb.

As for the water, we had 2 liters per person per day in May, I would say a bit more for the hotter months. But, obviously water is very heavy so you might have to suck it up.
