Folks, my partner and I are looking to head down to the New River Gorge for a few days. We've never been and don't have the guidebook yet (we'll pick it up along the way). The forecast looks ok, but it's borderline for a 12 hour car drive in our opinion. Can anyone offer any advice on whether it's possible to climb anything during the rain, shortly after a storm if the weather is nice, or if this time of year is just bad news for the New River? Thanks to any advice that can be offered.

Greg - There are plenty of places to climb in the rain at the New. Some of the guidebooks have recommendations for climbing on rainy days. Flyin' Brian McCray's book, and a few other books, are in this group. Look for it when your picking out your guidebook.

exoduster and premarital bliss stay dry in the rain, they're both at Endless wall, use the fern creek ladders to get to them, and as usual

rico's dry

Expect rain this time of year...it's the New. Only a few moderates stay dry in the rain. The caves and overhangs will likely stay dry but the routes are 12+ and harder.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
