This might be a silly question, but how many spaces are left?

Also... is there a guide book for the area?

Bill Thompson · · Marquette, MI · Joined Oct 2009 · Points: 245

8 spaces in the Intro Course, 6 spaces in the Women's

Yes there is a guidebook "An Ice Climbers Guide to Munising Michigan"
$20.00 available at Down Wind Sports

Thanks
Bill

Great! Thanks for the info Bill.

I'm hoping to get up there a couple times before the fest. There's not much ice around Northern IL.

A softball size peice of ice broke off the climb, hit the base of the water fall and rocketed toward Bryan. He deciede it would be a good idea to field it like a ground ball... Yeah it took a bad bounce and nailed him in the balls! Ouch!

Wow! Great looking ice. Has Bryan ever tried to insert a helmet in his pants for protection, sorta like a huge theater 'codpiece'. It can be done, trust me.

Photos look great. Couldn't make it to the Fest earlier this month. I'll be coming to Munising March 5-7. I know it's been pretty warm lately but how well is the ice holding up and do you think it'll be in climbing condition the first weekend in March?

Thanks,

Andy

Ice is in really good shape and should be climbable well into March. Munising had a winter storm last night with a lot of snow, so if you are planning to hit the climbs along the lakeshore, snowshoes might be a good idea- have fun!

Thanks for the update and advice, Bill!

Andy, what you ought to do - alone or with your partner(s) - is head into Canada to the Nipigon Ice Fest, March 5-7.

Nipigon is past Thunder Bay across the MN/Canadian border at the northern top of Lake Superior. It's another 8 hours by car each way but there are clinics, other climbers with tons of experience and skill, and unlimited ice!!

Check it out: NIPIGON ICE FEST LINK

Some of us from Milwaukee/Madison are heading up on Wednesday so maybe we'll see you there!

That'd be sick, Nick. I wish and I totally would but I'm trying to keep this ice excursion super budget because I have another trip to Colorado the next weekend to fund. Thanks for the link and info... I've climbed with James Loveridge at the Pit... he's phenomenal. Thanks again.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
