PLEASE FILL OUT A PERMIT AT THE RANGER STATION ON ENTRY.The McGee Creek Natural Scenic Area is an 8900 acre recreation area. Climbing access here is tentatively allowed and can restricted if climbers are not responsible stewards. Here's some do's and don't's requested by park rangers:Fill out a mandatory permit for area use at the ranger station (Its FREE and only takes a minute or two)Pick up any of your trash (or others' trash would be appreciated)Do not trim back or destroy any foilageCampfires are only allowed in designated spots along the trailsStay on trails as much as possible (obviously, this isn't possible 100% of the time for climbers)Avoid creating trails without permission or placing trail markers or flagsCurrently, our relationship with park rangers is good, but this can easily change if problems begin to arise. Please help us maintain access by being responsible and thinking of other climbers too.Dallas locals first started developing here in the early '00s and many of the classic lines have long been established. Much of this information hasn't been published or made public but a guidebook is currently in development and in its final stages that will include McGee Creek Bouldering. Updates to this page may follow. Just know that any names, grades, and area info on here may be completely incorrect and is subject to change. If you have any questions or suggestions, don't hesitate to email Kevin, the OK Admin, who is familiar with much of the developments in McGee. From Atoka, OK.Take Hwy 3 East from Atoka, OK and take a left on Centerpoint Road. There's a sign for McGee Creek NRA, but it's kind of hidden so watch for it on the North side of Hwy 3. The ranger station is 10 minutes on Centerpoint Road, from there, it’s another 5 minutes to the parking lot where the trailhead is on the north end of the lot.Directions to the McGee State Park will not take you to the bouldering location. Use the Google Maps pin on MP to take you directly to the ranger station.
A sandstone cliff band of mostly choss with a few gems Stop at the first yellow West Branch hiking sign on the right side of the road after the ranger station. Follow the Bugaboo trail until you cross the creek and continue straight on the trail until you stumble across a campfire on your left. Veer off trail towards the cliff and there is an obvious downclimb just past the campfire. If the cliff band disappears before you see a campfire walk back along the bottom of the cliff band until you see The Hourglass. From the bottom of the downclimb you'll see the chalked arete of Hourglass on your left. Walk towards Hourglass and along the cliff band and you'll find the Interstellar boulder. There are some large boulders in the way so you'll have to walk down the hill and around them, but the Interstellar boulder is just on the other side.
The Hangar has a number of boulders varying in grade and style. If you walk around you’ll find a lot of boulders that are undeveloped or I don’t have info about. Park by the overlook bluffs and hike down to the lower carnasaw trail. You will walk past a cliff of boulders and eventually you’ll walk down to the edge of another overlook cliff. Walk down and discover the walls with all of the climbs.
