Climbing Near East Bernstadt, Kentucky

Pockets and Plates sandstone. Very secluded From the car, the approach is the same as second hand smoke. From second hand smoke continue north to the old road/pipeline. Once at the old road/pipeline turn right (East) heading up the hill for 20 yards. Climb a small ramp and gain the trail leading to Super Splitter Wall and Mind Funk Wall. Follow this trail/cliff line, under another waterfall and under many rock shelters.GPS coordinates: 37.153382, -84.285534

Beautiful Sandstone boulder right beside the trail. Very hard to miss this odd shaped boulder. The Stairway to Heaven boulder has multiple climbs ranging from V0- V7.  From the trail head off highway 80, hike a mile following the cliff line. Pass Secondhand Smoke and Funky Town. The Stairway to Heaven boulder is on the left of the trail. Can’t miss it.

Second-Hand Smoke (SHS) is a small crag located in Laural County off of Hwy 80 in between London and Somerset Kentucky. The area is typical Kentucky style sandstone that is highly featured and textured. The area isn't usually that crowded given its location away from RRG, but if there is a crowd there are other nearby crags that use the same approach that are available. Drive: Park on the side of Hwy 80 (very large shoulder and then some) at the end of the guard rails on the laurel county side of the river. Approach: (5 minutes) Start walking down the hill on the North side of the road following the guardrail. You will find the climber's trail follows a small cliff line for a few hundred yards before heading down and away from the cliff to bypass a waterfall. The trail leads to an overhang that features a spring running out of it with a pipe for easy access and bottle filling (water still needs to be treated. Just past this overhang is the start of SHS crag.
