	Spain: El Chorro Mark Glaister/RockFax/2018 Purchase this book The below is an excellent guide book: Published by Rockfax this rock climbing guidebook for El Chorro describes all the bolted sports routes to be found in the huge limestone gorge of El Chorro and the surrounding area. El Chorro is located in the hills 50km inland from Malaga and is one of Spain’s most famous sport climbing destinations. This guidebook details the 10 major sport climbing areas within El Chorro including Les Frontales, The central gorge, Los Cotos and Makinodromo. Also included are the surrounding crags of Mijas, Turon, Desplomilandia, Valle de Abdalajis, El Torcal, Villanueva de Cauche, Poza de la Mona, Puerto Rico, and Pinares de San Anton. In total over 1,500 individual routes are described across a good range of grades. All the routes are shown on colour photo topos, along with a short description. At the start of each crag there is a location map, and a good description giving a general overview of the crag and type of rock climbing to be found there. At the start of the guidebook there is comprehensive information about the logistics of climbing in El Chorro including how to get there, accommodation, and eating options. Published by Rockfax in December 2018 this guidebook is in English text throughout. It has been fully revised and is now nearly double the size of the previous edition that was published in 2008. It also provides the latest information on accessing the routes in the central gorge by either using the now refurbished Caminito del Rey walkway or via a beautiful and spectacular walk. 	Europe - Sport Vertical By David Atchison-Jones, Jingo Wobbly Publishing Purchase this book This is an overview book that sets out to list every single crag on the European continent a la Tim Toula's "Rock N' Road". Intended for a broad audience of various languages, the book uses an absurdly complex assortment of symbols & numbers to "describe" each crag without the use of text. The book is in full color, with plentiful glossy photos of various crags. This isn't a guidebook in the classic sense, but it can be a good way to learn about the locations & raw statistics of the multitude of little known crags in Europe. The book indicates number of routes, height of cliff, length of approach, sun exposure, and relative quality for more than 2600 sport, bouldering & alpine crags. The book also points you in the direction of the pertinent local guidebooks. Its a nice reference book, but probably not too useful once you're on the road. Set it on the coffee table or near your procelain throne for a few minutes of inspiration when the local weather is bad.
	Rock Climbing Europe Stewart Green, Falcon Guides Purchase this book Rock Climbing Europe is the perfect starting point for Americans on their way to Europe. The book is far from comprehensive, so ensure that your destination is included before laying out $40 or so. If your destination is included, expect explicit, robust, American-style route descriptions (a rarity in European guides) & photo-topos, all prefaced with a good deal of "Lonely Planet"-style traveler information. The book also follows the Falcon Guide system of providing tips on lodging/camping and where to find amenities in the local area. The book is encyclopedic is size, so you may want to xerox the key sections if you're going for a short trip.
