Description
Cross shaped ridge splitting La Quinta and Indian Wells. The eastern head of the ridge starts at St. Francis of Assisi Church continues west to join Peak 1276 and Eisenhower Mountain. There is a perpendicular ridge that crosses through the primary ridge, giving it a distinctive cross shape. The shape, the Catholic Church at the head and the questionable rock, gives this formation a particularly repentant feel. The ridge varies in quality but the vast majority of the rock is medium to low quality granite. That said, there is some great scrambling and 4th to low 5th class climbing to be had, if you can access it. The access point I've used with success is the parking lot of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Although, stealth and speed may be your ally in not offending the parishioners.
Getting There
Park in the parking lot across Washington St from the St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Head directly west and make your way to the base of the first peak through the northern parking lot of the church. Other access points include the northern most loop in Legacy Villas La Quinta Resort or the gated communities that surround the ridge. These are all blocked by gates however.
