Description Suggest change

The Granite Mtn Trail is justifiably popular for many reasons. Easy access right off I-90, nice trail to an open summit with lookout and outstanding views. At 5632' it also qualifies for multiple peakbagging lists like the Mid-State Milers, Homecourt 100, Washington Peaks With 1000' Prominence, Smoot List, Washington Fire Lookouts, and Snoqualmie Peak Pin. Really the only disappointing thing about Granite Mtn is the lack of climbable granite. It is granite but mostly in the form of scree with the occasional boulder or tiny crag. This page is dedicated to collecting enough of these boulders and tiny crags to turn this half day hike into a fun full day.

Getting There Suggest change

Take Pratt Lake Trail #1007 for 1.3 miles to junction with Granite Mountain Trail #1016. Take the GMT for another 2.3 miles to the Ponds at 4900'. To get to Beargrass Rib leave the trail here. Keep right of the Ponds on boulders and up grassy slope to first rock. At about 5000' on the main trail there's a side trail that veers off left up the ridge. This is known as the winter route. Winter Route First South Rib is the 40' rib on the first granite outcropping on the I-90 (south) side.
