Come Enjoy Spearfish Canyon's Most Exotic Location!
A super secretive, long lost, hidden away gem of a crag chock full of rock climber's rock climbs. The area boosts long, slightly overhung routes with great holds that contain powerful, punchy cruxes between nice rests. If you're a fan of The Danks or The Holy Hanna Crag, be sure to check out this funtastic area that's guaranteed to give you feelings of isolation and consternation. The only issue is the short season which runs from April 1st to when it gets hot as hell. A strange setting in terms of location, this area is plagued by cold morning shade until about 11 am after which hot, blazingly intense sun cooks both climber and belayer alike until dusk. For those who like their outdoor climbing to truly embrace ALL the challenges of the outdoors, feel free to skip the beach settings of the Sunshine Wall and buy a ticket for something that's between alpine enjoyment and pure sport climbing misery. Be sure to bring a good, strong set of muscles, untearable finger tendons, fresh skin, and a lead head that doesn't panic when runouts between bolts exceed more than an average body length. SPORTY! This crag is kinda like prison, it's full of fun stuff that's not for everyone! But for those willing to blaze just off the beaten path, this area might just be your jam.
Getting There
After arriving at Cheyenne Crossing, get on the Hanna Road and travel past the pond. Don't go past the Wildcat Lane or past the paid campground. Find a large boulder just off the right hand side of the road and park on the gravel pull off upstream from it. This tiny parking lot may hold about three or four vehicles so plan accordingly. Find an electrical box with a sign and walk upstream for 20 feet and turn left onto the grassy hillside just after the really big pine tree next to the road. Make your way into the trees by a large, long, dead gray log on the ground. Find the scratch trail and use the colorful trail markers to guide your way for about 20 minutes of trekking. The hiking is fairly mellow but those who attempt to tackle this wild trail in flip flops will probably not have a good time. Please do your best to stay "on the trail", be respectful and tread lightly.
