Description
The Baldy Overlook climbs are on the mostly south-facing cliff band directly above the 071 Boulders. This cliff band is a Dakota Sandstone formation with sections of good rock. Most routes are sport bolted with a couple trad and mixed lines. This is a good, sunny, winter crag on low snow years and is also climbable in summer with the higher altitude and breeze especially in the afternoon. Some of the routes stay shady most of the day as well. *This area is new, and many of the routes will improve as they get cleaned up. Bring a brush.
Getting There
Park at the Baldy Mountain Trailhead, and walk up the road for about 10-15 minutes. Pass the trail (on the left) for the 071 Bouldering Area, and walk up the road another 5 minutes until you see a well traveled trail on the left marked with an obvious flat boulder. Take this trail for a few minutes, and just before the trail starts to access the top of the cliff, veer left on a climber's trail and navigate your way down and around to the base of the cliffs. Alternatively you could access the cliff from the boulders with a short bushwhack.
