Description
Huge bastion of granite visible from I-80. Also known as "Sam's Rock", e.g. on Google Maps. Cobre is best described as the "compass" of the Toano Range insofar as describing the location of the many developed rock formations and multi pitch routes.
Cobre is the big chunk of granite first visible 22 miles West of Wendover, Nevada. Exit 387 (Schafter Exit). The pyramidal shaped granite peak of Cobre is easily visible from here. Use the Many BLM roads to get in toward the peak. The quality of the road declines somewhat after passing the small power station, but with some tenacity 4x4 High clearance vehicle are not required.
Routes will be described in relation to their orientation to Cobre's West, East,South, and North Faces.
