Lonely Island

International > N America > Canada > British Columbia > Okanagan > Lonely Crags

Description

A small crag of short, moderate, and safely-bolted slab/vertical routes developed specifically for novice sport climbers looking to hone-in their rope and rock skills. Each route ends with a two-bolt station consisting of either chains, double-locking steel carabiners, or quick-links. All routes can be climbed with a 30 m rope, with the traverse requiring a 45m length.

This stunning multi-coloured banded rock more closely resembles the climbing styles of Cedar and Skaha than its Lonely neighbours. A ground-level chain station has been installed to promote anchor building & cleaning education. Please be mindful for loose rock and always wear a helmet. Like the rest of the Lonely Crags, this is a tick hotspot during early-season sessions. The wall sees early morning sun and is in the shade by mid-afternoon. Developed & self-funded lovingly by Don Yee and Jon Kettle with support from loved ones and friends.

Getting There

Starting from the main parking lot, walk up the hill towards Lonely Girl / Lone Pine. About 50 m prior to the Lone Pine turnoff, turn right and meander uphill for ~ 150 m following orange flagging tape before arriving at a bush with three pieces of flagging tape. Descend left to get to the base of the wall, continue upwards to the route anchors for TR setups. Total approach time: 15 minutes.

[Hide Comment] A wonderful crag to learn and build confidence! So grateful for such a wonderful climbing area with so many fun routes! Sep 6, 2024

[Hide Comment] Checked out this new crag with the family today (1 & 4 year old). Great addition to the Kelowna climbing scene. Thanks Jonno and Don for your contribution. I would note that, although the crag is easily accessible from the top, some of the routes are best set-up on lead. There are some anchors set further back that allow you to securely access the cliff's edge and set-up a top rope for a handful (but not all) routes. Mar 9, 2025
