Description
A wild island with rugged seacliffs South East of hobart. Once a spot for caravans, surfing, and spotting the occasional penguin or albino wallaby, this island has seen a large amount of climbing development in recent years. Much of the rock is sea sculpted dolerite on dramatic cliffs. While tasmania in general is quite remote and adventurous, Bruny island takes it a step further, pushing you more remote.
Getting There
From Hobart, head south on highway B68 towards Kettering. From follow signs for Bruny island ferry. The ferry costs $40-$60 AUD depending on your car and time of departure, and is free for pedestrians, for this reason it is generally advisable to spend a few days on the island, so stock up on supplies on the mainland (food/gear/petrol is limited and expensive on Bruny island). Ferries run every 20 minutes, and generally you don't need to book ahead of time unless you are going on a holiday weekend.
