Aysén (alternatively Aisén) includes the central portion of Chilean Patagonia. Less famous perhaps than the jutting towers of Torres del Paine to the south, the climbing opportunities here are innumerable as the small strip of land rises quickly from the Pacific Ocean and the countless inlets and fjords that shape the region up to the Patagonian Andes.
High adventure can be found in the numerous big walls around Coyhaique and Cerro Castillo, as well as the seldom visited Northern Patagonian Icefield and the northern portion of the Southern Patagonian Icefield (confusing, right?). On the other hand, cragging opportunities abound and this page, at the moment, does not do justice to the endless rock that covers this sparsely populated region.
