Mt. Richthofen
Mt. Richthofen is the highpoint of the rugged Never Summer Mountains on the west side of RMNP. The 12,945 foot summit is on the northern boundary of the Park and is a few miles south of Cameron Pass.
There are long day hikes to Richthofen from Trail Ridge Road or a shorter rugged route from Colorado State Forest State Park off CO 14. For the latter approach, there is free camping on National Forest land near Gould, west of Cameron Pass.
Getting There
Drive west on CO 14 to Cameron Pass. Two miles after cresting the pass, turn left into Colorado State Forest State Park. Pay the day use fee at the self service kiosk. Turn right onto the Lake Agnes road to the parking area. This short road is a bit steep and rough, but I once drove it in a Toyota Camry.
