Description
Amazonia is probably the best singular boulder within the Schmidt area. This is a solitary, glacial erratic nestled within a quaint rhododendron grove. The location is beautiful, and the rock quality is very good. Most lines on this boulder are slab-vertical and generally on the easier side. Don't climb here without running a lap on its namesake, Amazonia, V1, a great, technical boulder problem following an arcing rail feature up a slightly less-than-vertical face.
Getting There
Stay with me here. This one is a bit tricky to find. Follow directions to the central sector under the main Schmidt Area page. From here, looking towards the Breaking Wave Boulder, wrap around the left side of the boulder, and skirt the edge of a rhododendron grove on your left. You will pass by a nine foot tall, slabby boulder on your right at which point there will be a break in the dense vegetation to the left. Cut into the faint climber's trail. Go straight for about 20 meters before veering slightly right following a path of least resistance through the grove. Pass by a few low lying boulders, and you will probably catch glimpse of a large boulder through the trees. Continue to a 17' boulder in a slight clearing within the rhododendron bushes. You've made it. Have fun.
The GPS pin should be directly on the boulder.
