Water Canyon

Nevada > Western Nevada

Description

A fun area with lots of rock that's very close to Winnemucca (about a 10 min drive). Not much is currently established here, but it's a fun area for exploring and there is certainly more rock climbing potential. Most of the land in this area is managed by the BLM.

There is also free camping (3 day limit), pit toilets, a free disc golf course, mountain biking and hiking options, and a fully stocked yurt (Nov-June) for back country skiing.

Getting There

Head SE out of Winnemucca on Water Canyon Road. The following distances are from Highland Park in Winnemucca:

  • At 1.1 miles the paved road turns to gravel.
  • At 2.7 miles turn right to go to the Winnemucca Sunset Boulders, otherwise continue SE on Water Canyon Road.
  • At 4.4 miles you'll reach the trailhead parking.
