Vedauwoo Bouldering

Description

This subarea is to help organize the bouldering spots for those that want to focus on bouldering/unroped climbing in Vedauwoo.

We understand that some subareas in Vedauwoo have roped routes and boulder problems, so it will be hard to get all the bouldering problems here on a quick reorganization. Give us some time, and we will work on this further.

Getting There

These are scattered around the Vedauwoo area. See the individual subareas for specifics.

[Hide Comment] I appreciate updating the MP for Vedauwoo. It was on my list of to-dos, but I realized it would be a huge pain in the ass. Some of the one-off areas are pretty messy.

Billy does have some good points. Some areas separate bouldering areas from route climbs (like RMNP) but route climbs being intertwined with boulders at Vedauwoo make it helpful to have that information next to each other. You can use the 'obvious' line of Friday the 13th at Nautilus to find the Vedajuicer. You can find Equilibrium easier if you know it is climber's right of Rejecter Ejector. I don't think I did a good job of making note of this in the guidebook and am now realizing I probably should, but that is how I used MP to find boulders to get a lay of the land. I tried to keep the boulders somewhat independent of the routes I guess so you wouldn't have to buy a route guidebook to help with finding boulders, or rely on MP (mainly because I think the MP phone app is terrible).

An approach that addresses some of what Billy mentioned is to make better subareas for existing areas on MP. This might be easier than migrating everything over. Nautilus on MP has like 100 things on it which is a bit confusing when there really are maybe 5-6 distinct 'areas' for routes/boulders. Kelman's guidebook does a good job of creating subareas, I use slightly different subareas than he does, and I don't know what the other route climbing guidebook does for subareas, but I think any sort of update is better than the as-is MP layout for Vedauwoo. [Hide Comment] The goal with creating this subarea is to try and tidy up some of areas on the main Vedauwoo page in the hope to improve focus for visiting climbers. Creating a bouldering subarea is in line with how many other climbing pages are structured on Mountain Project, and Vedauwoo has many of them.
Please bear with us as changes are made to this subarea, the MP admins are volunteers with full time jobs and families and are working to update this subarea as time allows. Aug 31, 2023
