Description Suggest change

Just a minute south of Space Invaders, along the mountainside, lies The Beech. It’s the beginning of a large cliff that curves along the south end of Hanging Mountain, but it feels like a standalone cliff because of the large cleft defining the wall’s left end. All the climbs here have unique and featured rock, hidden pockets and jugs, and nice sections of climbing. None of the climbs here are superlative, but most of them are good and worth checking out. The rock here is gneiss, and the angle is usually just less than vertical. A very loose section in the middle of the wall is clearly labeled “Area Closed” and is closed to climbing. There are at least a few ledge-fall opportunities on most of the climbs, so both climber and belayer should remain vigilant about slack in the rope and cognizant of the ledgefall potential. There is still a fair bit of dust and dirt on some of the routes, and like all relatively new crags some holds may break. Wearing a helmet is advised.

These climbs were equipped or developed collaboratively by the following community of climbers: Alec Baker, Christopher Beauchamp, Jen Chimel, Lydia Comart, Jenny Legaspi, Dolci Mascolo, Pamela Matsuda-Dunn, Tim Murdock, Dan Navarro, Brian Phillips, Matt Shove, Ryan Stefiuk, and Jordan Revis.

(The description was written by Dolci Mascolo.)

Getting There Suggest change

Follow approach trail from parking lot toward the Cloud Buttress. When you reach the cliff, follow it to the left past Space Invaders. The Beech will be the next obvious area that the trail passes under.
