Description
Whiskey Rock is a popular cliff jumping rock on the St. Mary's River in the St. Joseph Channel in Ontario, Canada. It tends to be busy in the warmest summer months of July and August, especially on the weekends and during the afternoon. To have the best climbing conditions, consider going in the early morning when there won't be as many children or boats. These climbs are considered deep water solos, thus, be mindful of rocks underwater as water levels fluctuate from year to year.
Getting There
Whiskey Rock can only be accessed by boat. Thus, the ability to operate a motorboat and navigate the channel using the buoys is key. Coming from the St. Joseph's Island, Richard's Landing area, travel East in the St. Joseph channel and go under the bridge that connects St. Joseph's Island to the Canadian mainland. Continue in Wilson's Channel, keeping Wilson Island, Devils Island, and Copper Island to the starboard (right) side. Then, go in between Weller Islands and Picture Island. At this point, "Slow, No Wake" buoys will be present. It is important to obey this signage. (You also could go around Picture Island and come in from the East). As the channel between Weller Islands and Picture Islands ends, Whiskey Rock's face will be right in front of you.
