Description
The Jerusalem Road Boulders are located in the westernmost and most accessible section of Wendell State Forest. In season, these areas can be accessed most easily through the Wendell State Forest main entrance off of Wendell Road. When the gate is closed, the Wickett Pond Road entrance can get you there as well.
This area has a high concentration of easy and moderate boulders on quality stone in a secluded area with no access issues and plenty of parking! These woods are home to over 150 boulder problems distributed over 20+ areas that were found and cleaned by Ward Smith and friends. This was the site of a couple bouldering fun comps in the late 2000s. This is an excellent area for beginners as there are many (100+) quality V0- to V4 boulders in a variety of styles. Good landings and varying wall heights make it the perfect spot to hone your bouldering skills and build confidence topping out. For the more advanced boulderer, there is a good selection of boulders from V5 up to V8 or 9 (including some projects and likely some undiscovered gems) that can keep anyone busy for at least a few trips. For the highball enthusiast, you won't be disappointed by the selection of tall boulders to get you gripped. While this is not a destination like Farley, Rose, or Happy Valley/Hideaway, there is something here for everyone, and it is well worth a visit for any local or for an out of towner looking for a fun and quiet day of climbing.
A wire brush might be good to have on hand in this area. While these boulders were impeccably cleaned at some point, some have succumbed to partial reclamation by nature.
Getting There
The easiest entry is through the Wendell State Forest Main Entrance on Ruggles Pond Rd./Laurel Dr. The gates are open seasonally between 9am and 5pm. You can pay and park in the pay lot, or keep driving onto good dirt roads until you reach Jerusalem Rd. There are a couple spots to park along this road. If you opt for parking on the dirt road, be forewarned that the gates are closed at 5pm, and you will need to drive out a different way (see below).
An alternate entrance is though Wickett Pond Rd., which is a good dirt road. This turns into Ruggles Pond Rd./Laurel Dr. and leads to Jerusalem Rd. There are no gates on this road. To venture onto Jerusalem Road, a higher clearance vehicle may be recommended, but is not necessary.
