Description

Lovely granite slab climbing in an amazing setting below the Moorish Castle in the town of Sintra. Mostly single pitch routes around 100' in length - a 70m rope is helpful if you don't want to walk off the top outs. After climbing, head into town for a snack at the famous Piriquita pastry shop.

Getting There

Sintra is accessible by train from Lisbon. From there, you'll take the Estrada da Pena (counterclockwise) on the south end of town up the hill towards the castle. At the Parque Das Merendas, meander to the back (Southeast) corner of the park, where a trail leads uphill. This trail will eventually land you at the base of the climbs. At the far SE/uphill end of the crag is a full topo of the cliff on a large sign at the side of the trail.

Alternatively, if traveling by car, you can drive the Estrada Da Pena to the parking lot for the Pena park (off to the left side of the road, across from the ticket office), then walk to the back of the lot and take the trail that heads off there - when a downhill trail branches on the left, take it - it leads directly down to the cliff.
