Description
The ice and mixed cragging area on the (skiers) left bank of Argentiere Glacier's terminus, aka "Rive Gauche". Note that left/right for glaciers is taken from the perspective of glacier flow in general in Chamonix (e.g. see Julien Desecures' Grand Jorasses guide, p. 24).
Getting There
From the Lognan lift station in the Grand Montet Ski area walk up and left towards the glacier via the 4 wheel drive road or if the lifts resort is open (I don't know how early the ice comes in, it's always been open when I've seen it) take the Herse chair lift to the top and ski down and left around the Grand Montet Ridge, staying as high as you can. You will be funneled towards the edge of the glacial ravine. The summer trail to Argentiere glacier comes along here and there comes a point where you pass a visible tunnel in the mountain side, some sort of utility tunnel. Go to this tunnel. This marks the access point to the climbs.
