Description
Pared Roja is a 150 meter long by 60 meter tall east facing limestone cliff. As of 2022 there are around 40 routes with many extensions. Grades that range from 6b to 8b with some open projects. The climbing style is generally vertical or overhanging on beautiful orange rock. The climbing season is best during the cooler months of the year. Crowds were nearly non-existent when we were climbing here but with the high quality of rock and Mediterranean climate it is quite possible that this area comes in and out of popularity. You can expect morning to midday sun and to be fairly sheltered from the elements.
Most of the hardware was in great shape yet a few of the routes are in need of rebolting.
Approach time 15 - 20 min
Park at a small dirt lot next to the culvert that runs under the highway and has a whale's mouth painted on the concrete. Walk up a dirt single lane road for a hundred meters or so before turning right on a footpath marked by Karens. Follow this path as it's zigzags towards the wall utilizing parts of the drainage. You will arrive at the base of the cliff about 60 meters left of a distinct tower formation. When you see the winter bird closure sign you will be in between the two sectors.
