Description
Im not sure how this cliff has gone unnoticed for so long. From the parking lot you can clearly see the potential. POV is Quartzite with big veins of Quartz crystals cutting through all over. Albeit quite chossy in spots but with lots of sections of bullet proof rock. The style is definitely thuggy. The rock is so featured that until routes get more traffic and chalk, its a bit of a find your own adventure which makes for hard onsighting. With a lot of work cleaning and climbing, some of the routes are cleaning up nice. Although it is all bolted this is not a classic sport crag. Care should be taken due to it being a new climbing area and a big approach. A helmet, extra food and layers are a must. It is common for big temperature shifts to occur. IMO POV has some of the best steep sport climbing in Eastern B.C. As of 2024 all of the hard routes have yet to had a second accent. lemme know if that changes!
Getting There
Parking lot is 15 mins past Lakit Lake. Road gets a bit bumpier after. I've driven it a couple hundred times in my Toyota Matrix (Corolla hatchback) so your Outback will be fine. Just giver lol. Parking lot coordinates: 49.734370,-115.641245
From parking lot head up ATV trail for approximately .5km. Take a right off that trail at pink flagging tape. Follow flagging tape on a rough "trail", passing a creek, and gain an old mining trail. This trail is easy to follow and I believe it might be the remnants of the trail for the old Bill Nye gold mine. Follow this up a couple small switchbacks and one long one. The trail will split. Take the left which is well marked by flagging tape. Continue on this trail which gets a bit rough at time. This will bring you passed some small cliffs on the shady south side of the valley and a small creek crossing (Good water fill up) and a boulder field bellow POV. Staying closer to the creek side, head right and up to gain a faint trail to the base of POV. The total length is just under 2km with 350m elevation gain.
