Description

Area is mostly shady. It gets sun early in the morning. You can only boulder here in the winter once the water has frozen creating a solid ground. I typically climb here in February on sunny days. Some of the best overhanging problems in eastern SD. All of the direct vertical problems have a lower start on two amazing pockets and there are several link ups that can be done.  On years with a lot of snow, this boulder can be challenging as the snow builds on the top out preventing you from topping and the approach can be heinous if there is more than 12" of packed snow on the ground.   Feb is always the best time to climb here as Jan can be cold and March will be wet typically.  if there is too much snow you can always drop off at the jug finish instead of topping out as the top out is a slimy jug haul . There are still a couple projects that have not been topped out .

Getting There

Hike up river from the bridge passing great north wall until you come to the lodge up on the right. The Boulder is the end of a bluff across the river.
To get to the boulder you must cross the river either by getting wet or if water levels are low enough rock hop .
