Description Suggest change

A granite alcove at the west end of the Shoshone Canyon. Mostly sport climbing with several trad routes thrown in for good measure. There are about 60 routes with grades ranging from 5.6 to 5.12d. The approach, now that the new parking lot is open, takes about ten seconds.  The ground is flat so belaying and spreading out is easy, making this is a kid friendly site.

If you have found the super convenient Climber Parking lot for this Area, exited your vehicle and are staring at the Rocky Alcove in front of you, these are the various climbing walls.

1. The Tunnel Wall is on your left.

2. The Island is the 100' tall plug of granite straight in front of you.

3. Arrowhead Wall is on the right.

4. The Green Mile is approached by going up the trail to the saddle between The Island and Arrowhead Walls.

Getting There Suggest change

Just West of the town of Cody is the Shoshone Canyon. Highway 14/16/20 runs East West through the Canyon. At the far West end of the canyon are a series of tunnels. Between the second short tunnel and the really long tunnel is a Climbers parking area on the North side of the road. Pull in here and choose from about ten available parking spots. You are now less than a minute from dozens of high quality granite rock climbs. Enjoy!
