Description
The Sisters Boulder sits by itself alone from the main areas, and is not actually a standalone boulder. Instead it is a lower section of a rock that juts out, with a flat slab above it heading to higher rock faces. It climbs like a boulder, but is not easy to find if you are just looking for a boulder sitting alone in a field like we were.
Getting There
Please download and use the attached photos (1 through 8) for this boulder as they will be referenced in this guide to make getting there as easy as possible.
Take the trail to Emerald Lake, but instead of turning right at the sign for TJ and Barrett Lake (towards the Crimp Ladder area), continue straight to Emerald lake. (Getting to the sign should take around 20 minutes from the trailhead, and from the sign it should take around another 20 minutes to reach the Sisters Boulder)
From here, you should reach Emerald Lake in 5 minutes (Which should be on your right)
At this point the guidebook says to "stay on the trail along the creek following the signs toward Sky Meadows for 5 minutes." What it DOES NOT tell you is that there appears to be two different creeks running in slightly different directions and the trail you are supposed to take (which should take you to the right) is harder to see than the trail you should not take (which takes you to the left)
You may see a sign for Duck Lake Trail which leads left. DO NOT take this trail. You should be taking a trail that heads to the right after you pass the Lake. (I can only presume that this is the trail towards Sky Meadows (also sometimes called Gentian Meadows), but we did not see a sign)
(See PICTURE 1) Duck Lake Trail is visible on google maps, but instead you should be following a path similar to the one in red.
(See PICTURE 2 and PICTURE 3) As you head to the right, you will be walking on a faint trail that leads to a fork that is around a 100 yards away, circled in red
(See PICTURE 4 and PICTURE 5) From the fork you want to head left, which will take you uphill following a small creek with a trail on both sides
(See PICTURE 6) After walking uphill for a while, you will reach a right turn that will take you towards a clearing
(See PICTURE 7) You may have to walk through some trees here, but with large gray spire in the distance to the left, there is a clearing with a small rock outcrop to the right. This is the Sisters Boulder (Marked in red)
(See PICTURE 8) This photo was taken of the large spire with The Sisters Boulder directly to my right. It can be used as another reference to find the boulder.
