Description

The Pared de Santillana (previously known as Cancho de la Herrada) is an amazing wall, around 120m tall, with a lower section (¿20m?) for either friction or crack/layback climbing, followed by ~100m of huge jugs, so the upper part is never harder than IV.

It is the perfect spot for climbers who want to start trad-climbing. There are plenty of routes in the wall. All of them are fun to trad-climb and easy to protect.

The most famous ones are the Sur and the Peñalara, but really they are all a lot of fun.

*Bring plenty of slings*: they are the only way to protect the upper section. 60m ropes recommended, otherwise you'll have to simul-climb the first few meters.

For the descent you can scramble down a gully in the north face. There a very faint red marks in the beginning, barely visible now.

Getting There

From the parking (Canto Cochino) follow GR10, red-white marks until you reach the "Collado de la Dehesilla". From there, turn left, and follow PR-M1, yellow-white marks. The trail will take you almost to the base of the wall. It should take a couple of hours to get there (maybe 2h30min?).
