Description
The climbing areas off the Boy Scout Road (CR 68C) are some of the oldest and largest in the Red feather Lakes region. In fact, climbing in Red Feather owes most of its early history to the camp counselors at the Ben Delatour Boy Scout Ranch. They have been guiding scouts and putting up climbs on the Boy Scout property (private land) since the mid-'70s. The major bouldering areas off the Boy Scout Road are the Ceremonies, Meadow Boulders, The Temple, Pit and the Pā, and West Elkhorn Creek. Route climbing can be found at the glorious Swallow Crags and the newly developed Dome with a View at the West Elkhorn Creek zone.
Getting There
Most of the climbing off the Boy Scout Road is centered around the Elkhorn Creek Trailhead. From Livermore, head west on the Red Feather Lakes Road (CR 74E), then turn south/southwest along the Boy Scout Road (CR68C) until you reach the Elkhorn Creek Trailhead on the north side of the road.
Alternatively, there is a pullout back east from the trailhead along 68C that gives easier access to the Swallow Crags and The Temple. Please DO NOT BLOCK THE GATE, and there is a 5 CAR MAX for this parking area. If there are already 5 cars, please use the Elkhorn Creek Trailhead, and respect the private residence across the street.
