Description
This north-facing crag features some of the best rock at Chipmunk Flat. The lack of sun led to rock that is free of the chemically-weathered grit that plagues the cliffs north of the highway. The rock is similar to that of Tuolumne meadows, with large feldspar knobs and, in some places, glacial polish. It is a wonderful place to go to when it is hot everywhere else on the SPH.
Getting There
If coming from the west: Park at the first turnout on the north side of the road just prior to reaching the First Buttress (the first large crag on the north side of the road). Deadman Buttress will be obvious from the parking area. Cross the creek and work your way up the hill towards the feature, following a faint trail. Skirt a small cliff band on east side.
