Description
The Telluride region is home to some of the best bouldering in Western Colorado. With over 1,000 problems spread between a dozen areas, elevations ranging from 7,000 to 11,400 feet, five different rock types to choose from, and a diverse range of settings from alpine talus fields to lush aspen forests and high desert canyons, there's no shortage of options for both local and visiting climbers.
Over the last ten years, the options for bouldering in the Telluride region have dramatically increased. Amazing new climbs have been added to established areas, and more than half a dozen new bouldering areas have been found and developed. In addition to well-known and established areas like The Mine Boulders, Society Turn, The Ilium Boulders, The Powerbox Boulder, The Cove and Sanborn Park Road, newly developed/documented areas like The Tree House, The Alta Boulders, The Shothole Boulder, The Dark Side Boulder, Bolam Pass, and Hillside Drive have greatly increased the quality and diversity of climbing experiences in the area. With established problems from V0-V14 (and several harder projects still awaiting an ascent) and a wide range of climbing styles, there's something for everyone.
The new 'Telluride Bouldering' guidebook by Christian Prellwitz is the definitive guidebook to the area. It covers in detail all of the areas listed above, including over 600 climbs never before documented. More information can be found on the @TellurideBouldering Instagram page. The book can be purchased in Telluride at Jagged Edge Mountain Gear and Between The Covers or by emailing TellurideBouldering@gmail.com. It is also available at stores in Durango, Ouray, Montrose, Grand Junction and the Front Range.
